Culinary couple Quinn and Karen Hatfield are the chef-owners of Los Angeles restaurants Odys + Penelope, The Sycamore Kitchen and The Mighty. The two met while working in the kitchen at Spago Hollywood and after years working within highly acclaimed kitchens in Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco, the couple opened their first project together in 2006, named Hatfield’s. After six years of running their Michelin-starred restaurant, in 2012, Karen and Quinn opened The Sycamore Kitchen, followed by the 2015 opening of Odys + Penelope, and the 2017 opening of downtown LA restaurant, The Mighty.
The Sycamore Kitchen redefines the urban bakery-eatery with the couple’s signature handcrafted yet refined touch. Delectable pastries like the signature Salted Caramel Pecan Babka are paired with a world-class coffee program by Stumptown Coffee Roasters. Sandwiches with house-baked bread meet delicate market salads studded with seasonal highlights. Breakfast spans savory classics to sweet iterations. The Sycamore Kitchen’s design, personally conceived by Karen Hatfield, similarly blends a vintage rustic sensibility with modern industrial touches, recalling the building’s past life as an iconic 1950s print shop—while a colorful expanse of interwoven iron triangles by local artist Mark Caplan pays tribute to the community’s tradition of shared sculptures and art murals.
